2006 - The Henning Cultural Center

by Kevin LeVeque

The Henning House in Sulphur, Louisiana, was built by J. T. Henning in 1910 as a country home for his family. In the early 1900’s, this now busy downtown area was once rural farm land. It is one of the oldest existing structures in the city of Sulphur. The two-story, white farm house is raised on blocks, has wrap-around porches on each level, and a fireplace with a brick chimney constructed in the old, four-square plan. In 2002, the house was procured by Sulphur Parks and Recreation (SPAR) and named the Henning Cultural Center. It has been restored to its previous Southern grandeur and sits gracefully among the huge oak trees. Presently, the Center is a showcase exhibiting art and cultural experiences.
