2001 - Return to the Fair of Yesteryear

by Joe Sambataro

Joe Sambataro has captured the magic of the fairs of the past. The annual fair was one of the most anticipated events of the year. Staged at the end of the harvest season, it was the time to showcase produce, livestock and skills of farmers and their families. Area schools would display the works of each class. Blue ribbons in baking, quilting and art were a reflection of a year’s work in a community. Each family member enjoyed a unique fair thrill, cotton candy or a stroll down the midway. Many joyful children eagerly awaited a turn on the carousel, ferris wheel and other favorite rides.
